This page is under construction. More practices, including knowledge gardening and others I draw on, are on their way.

Practices that emerged from the work

These practices weren’t designed in advance; they grew out of years of doing the work. Regulatory landscaping and reflective relational practice are both based on the recognition that complex social systems cannot be engineered from a blueprint.

Practices I’ve developed

Collective scale · the landscape

Regulatory landscaping

Habitats shape habits, and habits shape habitats.

Understanding why actors behave as they do, and reshaping the landscape around a policy challenge so that self-reinforcing patterns of better behaviour can take hold.

Between people · the relationships

Reflective relational practice

A participatory way of assessing and enhancing the quality of relationships in a community, network or system, across four dimensions: positionality and power, connections and flows, boundaries and conflict, and actors and emergence.
